What do you mean by "imbedded"?

Do you have a sql engine running on your computer? MySQL or MsSQL?

If there is SQL engine on your server and you can create an ODBC connection to it, then you can use it within your VFP/ProMatrix application.

SQLite or similar - something that does not require installation.

I downloaded sqlLite3 and the odbc driver. I tried for 30 minutes to get it to work and gave up.

But that's more an indication of my attention span than the quality of the product.

I read the documentation and couldn't see that it would be any easier to use or install than MySQL.

Without a working odbc driver it would be difficult, if not impossible, to use with VPME.

I got the odbc driver for Windows 7 to work.

The odbc allows you to connect to an database, but you need to create a data base to connect to.

To create the database, I would have to download and install "SQLite Administrator - International Milestone Beta" published by http://sqliteadmin.orbmu2k.de/

Too much trouble. It's after 5, the sun is shining, I'm pretty sure there's bottle of white wine in the fridge.

Why do you want to use SQLite? You say you want "something that does not require installation." But, everything requires some sort of installation. Sure some are simpler than others. But install of the SQLite odbc, requires:
1) downloading an exe file;
2) unziping it;
3) running rundll to create the the odbc.

Pretty much what you do with MySQL's odbc except the exe installs the odbc without you having to run rundll.

The problem may be is that you really can't remember if you finished the bottle last night. :)

Well the SQLite Admin will install in the tools menu of Thunderbird. So one possibility is direct access to the Thunderbird email caches.

I think the ODBC stuff can be setup to run silently.

Anyway just a thought - something simple, portable, etc.
