EDI interface

Has anyone created EDI files from VFP ?
If so, can you point me to examples or documentation that is available.
How did you transmit the files ?
Thanx, Pete Ryder

Pete
Haven't played with EDI in many years. But back in the day, used DataTrans.
I see they have a interface for the major players.

Thanks Chuck:
I lucked out and don't have to do the EDI files. EDI doesn't appear to be terribly difficult to use but there would have been a learning curve (read: time/money) involved.

The supplier that needs data electronically, is letting me use CSV files or excel spreadsheets.
We just attach the files to an email and send to a special postoffice email address they have.

I could be wrong, but I think about the only people using EDI anymore are the real big dogs like WalMart, BestBuy and the heavyweights that probably wouldn't be dealing with us small fries. With all the new functionalities of Excel, that seems to be a popular interaction for a lot of companies anymore. Like I said, haven't played in the EDI arena for many years but have done many ACH set ups and even the Banks are straying away from some of the rigid NACHA rules. Have a Utility customer that I extract their billing into text files that get sent to a printing service and even they have their own file structure, a little like EDI, but more on a one on one basis.

Chuck: Seems like you are right that EDI is not commonly used now a days except by larger companies, and/or companies that have been using it for a long time.
Nice to hear from another old geezer - just like me.
I have been mostly working from home for years and thought I was heading into semi-retirement, when a local customer of mine, gave me an nice office fully equipped at their electronics manufacturing facility. They are throwing buckets of money at me, so i'll do this gig for a while I guess. It's really fun though and I love what I do creating software solutions for them. Examples are interacing with their bank, sending daily QB transactions (using QB SDK), and interfacing with a number of their electronics suppliers.
I am sooooo happy I'm using VFP - it is so robust.
Cheers Pete

HOW dare you call me an "old geezer"!! LOL
Ok Ok, I guess I am.
It's always nice to have people throw buckets of money at you.
I love working with VFP also.
They neat part is, if somebody wants to do something, somebody, somewhere has probably already been down that road. My wife thinks I'm semi-retired too. Just servicing the remain 35 or so customers that have had our systems for years. Slowly loosing 1 or so each year. Going to keep it going another couple of years, then I'll be old enough for S.S.
Probably give the Customers a 1 year advance warning.
