Library software

Postby stecenko » Fri Feb 08, 2013 11:07 am

Hi, Has any one a recommendation for software to catalogue the books falling off my bookshelves?

There seem to be several in the $30 to $50 range and some free open source.

For $50?

No way. And I tried once to develop and sell an inexpensive application. I lost my shirt.

Got all of the VPM(e) and Hertzenwerke books in PDF form and have them on my Motorola Xoom Tablet and view them with either the Free Adobe viewer or EZPDF viewer. Any books I have been interested in I usually look for the PDF version or at least see if you can get it on Kindle. I know that doesn't help you much with your old stuff, other than standing for hours at your All-In-1 printer and scan them all in to PDF files, just kidding.

Yes, I think it's time for me give up on paper and get a Kindle.

Have you tried other readers? Any comments on comparing Kindle with Kobo?

Hi Richard:
Just picked up an iPad Mini 32GB with Cellular and I like it a lot.
The regular iPads were just to big. I have a iTouch which is too small at my age. The mini is a good size.
Although Kindle is a little better as a reader, it lacks other features of a full function tablet. I couldn't see buying a tablet and not having it having all the features I need, because I don't wan't to have devices dedicated to specific things.
Wave to the bears downtown for me

Love my Xoom. Is an excellent reader. I have a Kindle account. My wife has a Nook, so I can share her books from B&N. And of course there is Google Books. The Samsung Galaxy has gotten great reviews and comes in 2 sizes.

I even printed my own Systems documentation out to a PDF, so I have it on my Xoom also.

Shelagh uses the Kindle and I have got the iPad mini which has the kindle app on it. My only concern is the number of Amazon transcations I get for YET ANOTHER Agatha Christie book that has apparently been purchased and downloaded.

I have got the Hentzenwerke pdfs in dropbox so that they are available anywhere, including the ipad.
